TJ Rainsford

Chief Technology Officer

TJ Rainsford is 501cTech’s Chief Technology Officer and brings with him a wealth of experience in nonprofit IT. In the past 15 years, TJ has done everything from building workstations to deploying virtual enterprise class network infrastructures – and quite a bit in between. His experience goes well beyond the hardcore network engineering to include custom Web application development; systems integration; and information and knowledge management consulting.

TJ’s entire career has been focused on addressing the technology needs of nonprofits. He has worked in a variety of nonprofit settings, from service-based international NGO’s to professional member-based and trade associations. He has even spent time in the for-profit sector providing consulting services to nonprofits. His varied background had led to some rather unique opportunities. He has provided consulting services to the Indonesian Parliament; worked with the British Home Office and others to develop eXtensible Markup Language standards for election systems; and even deployed the secure network infrastructure for a community-based bank. Needless to say, TJ likes a good challenge.

When not tackling technical issues or working with 501cTech clients on strategic initiatives, TJ also spends time as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of History at Mount Saint Mary’s University. He holds a Bachelor’s in History and Philosophy as well as a Master’s in History. He is happy to explain why an historian makes an ideal IT professional.

Favorite Tech Tool: “By far, my favorite tech tool is the carbon-based processor.”

Favorite Recipe: Ever the Renaissance man, TJ also fancies himself a gourmet and is always ready to take on 501cTech’s other resident chefs in a culinary throw-down.

Fun Fact: TJ’s family can trace its lineage back to owners of the St. James Gate brewery in Dublin, Ireland but, alas, his branch of the family does not get the annual lease payments.
